For Published Works

One of the most prestigious literary awards in the world, the Women’s Prize for Fiction was known as the Orange Prize for Fiction between 1996 and 2012 and the Baileys Women’s Prize for Fiction between 2014 and 2017. It celebrates excellence, originality and accessibility in women’s writing from throughout the world.

The Barbara Jefferis Award celebrates women in literature and is awarded biennially for “the best novel written by an Australian author that depicts women and girls in a positive way or otherwise empowers the status of women and girls in society.”

The Berkshire Conference of Women Historians Book Prize is for a first book that deals substantially with the history of women, gender, and/or sexuality and a first book in any field of history that does not focus on the history of women, gender, and/or sexuality.

The Bonnie Ritter Outstanding Feminist Book Award is awarded by the Feminist and Women Studies Division of the National Communication Association.
|

Comedy writing is a powerful tool, yet comedy writing by women is under-acknowledged. The prize will bring forward the next generation of female talent as well as shine a light on women who have an established comedy writing career. Female comedy writing can be given a respected place within the canvas of British wit on the page.

The Darlene Clark Hine Award is given annually by the Organization of American Historians to the author of the best book in African American women's and gender history.
|
|
The Diana Forsythe Prize was created to celebrate the best book or series of published articles in the spirit of Diana Forsythe’s feminist anthropological research on work, science, and/or technology, including biomedicine.

Davitt Awards is for the best crime books by Australian women.
|
|
The Emily Toth Award is sponsored by the Popular Culture Association. For best single work by one or more authors in Women’s Studies.

The Eludia Award is offered annually for a first book-length unpublished novel or collection of stories. The prize is open to women writers age 40 and older, who do not yet have a book-length publication of fiction.

The Golden Crown Literary Awards, also known as The Goldies, are presented each year at the Annual GCLS Conference to recognize excellence in Lesbian Literature.

The Heldt Prize gives awards for Best book by a woman in any area of Slavic/East European/Eurasian Studies, Best book in Slavic/East European/Eurasian women’s and gender studies, and Best article in Slavic/East European/Eurasian women’s and gender studies.

Since 1976, the Susan B. Anthony Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Women's Studies and the Department of English at the University of Rochester have awarded the Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize for fiction by an American woman.

The Jessie Bernard Award is given in recognition of scholarly work that has enlarged the horizons of sociology to encompass fully the role of women in society.

Joan Kelly Memorial Prize is awarded annually for the book in women’s history and/or feminist theory that best reflects the high intellectual and scholarly ideals exemplified by the life and work of Joan Kelly.

Rapallo Carige the national literary prize for woman writers in Italian was founded to support and enhance women's literary activity in the field of fiction.

Rose Mary Chawshay Prize is for a historical or critical work on any subject connected with English Literature by a woman of any nationality provided that the nominated work is available in English.

The Roswitha Prize (Ger. "Roswitha-Preis") is the oldest German language prize for literature that is given solely to women.

The Ruth Benedict Prize acknowledges excellence in a scholarly book written from an anthropological perspective about a lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender topic.

The Sarton Women's Book Awards are given annually to women authors writing chiefly about women in memoir, biography and fiction published in the United States and Canada

|
The SI Leeds Literary Prize is an award for unpublished fiction by UK-based Black and Asian women, aged 18 and above.

The Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz Prize (Premio Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz) is a prize awarded to women writers in Spanish.

The Stella Prize is a major literary award celebrating Australian women’s writing, and an organisation that champions cultural change.

The Stonewall Book Awards honors books for exceptional merit relating to the gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender experience.

For Unpublished Work
|
In order to celebrate Meriwether’s achievements and continue her legacy, the Feminist Press has partnered with TAYO Literary Magazine to launch a contest seeking the best debut books by women writers of color and nonbinary writers of color. First time authors, submit your complete manuscript, either fiction, including novels and short story collections, or narrative memoir, of 50,000 to 80,000 words, and you could receive $5,000 and a publishing contract from the Feminist Press!
