The GCLS Writing Academy is a yearlong intensive program for new or relatively new writers who have written at least part of a novel. In this course, students will learn the critical components of quality writing. The Writing Academy goes beyond craft of writing and takes students through all aspects of writing and publishing a novel.

Our central program focus is writing about our lives—about women's lives. We have offered courses and educational programs (both as workshops and online classes) in memoir, reminiscence, journaling, poetry, family stories, kitchen table stories, writing-as-healing, place writing and nature writing, writing for personal growth and spiritual development, and poetry. We also accept fiction proposals: learning and using fiction techniques, fiction in memoir, fictionalizing women's lives, etc.

Women Writers School offers courses and networking events for women who write. All genders and backgrounds are welcome at Women Writers School but we teach in ways that we think suit women best.

In our core classes, facilitators offer writing prompts and resources, and encourage participants to choose and develop their own subject matter. Classes allow for personal writing time, sharing in large and small groups, and opportunities to read aloud to an audience. Writers also learn to give and receive useful, constructive feedback, based on individual motivation and intentions. The class creates a safe space for individuals to develop their own voices and offers opportunities for them to have their words heard and honored without judgment.
